Herman Pfeuffer was born and raised on his father's farm (Valentin Pfeuffer) near the community of Comal in Comal County. Herman married Minna Fuhrmann on December 27, 1879. Minna had been born near Spring Branch and had moved with her parents to the Anderson Survey soon after it was bought.

For three or four years after their marriage the young couple resided in the big house with the Fuhrmanns. Then Valentin Fuhrmann had the house on the hill built.

Herman Pfeuffer had the upstairs added to the big house and added the Fruend homestead to the ranch.

At this time the ranch brand became HPF which it remains today. Herman Pfeuffer had the big barn built hauling lumber from Bastrop to do so. While Fuhrmann was known as the blacksmith, Pfeuffer was known as the cowboy. He had the big log barn built to store food, the rail pens built to handle cattle, and the round pen built to train horses.

While Pfeuffer was running the ranch, a big feed barn built by Fuhrmann behind the house on the hill caught fire and burned to the ground. Buckets of water were used to pour on the roof of the house on the hill to keep it from burning also. Recently a quart jar of hand-made, square nails burnt black were found on the spot whore the barn once stood.

The Herman Pfeuffers had three girls, Hulda born December 7, 1883, Adele born January 14, 1888, and Wanda born August 29, 1892.

Hulda married Gus Weidner on November 19, 1904 and went to live on his place in Bulverde. Adele married Albert Ludwig on May 11, 1910 and moved to New Braunfels to reside in the house that Valentin Fuhrmann had built for a rent house on Bridge Street. Wanda married Herman Hitzfelder on November 19, 1912. Herman Hitzfelder went to the ranch to live with his bride in the house on the hill. They lived here until Minna Pfeuffer died on June 6, 1918 at which time they moved into the big house and lived with Herman Pfeuffer until his death.

Herman Pfeuffer died quietly in his sleep on September 9, 1937. The day before his death he had fallen from his horse while riding in the pasture. Both of the Herman Pfeuffers are buried in the Comal Cemetery in New Braunfels.
