Pfeuffer Hall, circa 1889

Built in 1887 from funds saved on messhall operations by board chairman George Pfeuffer, the first building constructed solely as a dormitory on the Texas A&M campus was named Pfeuffer Hall. It contained 25 large dormitory rooms, heated by wood stoves and sans indoor plumbing. Those accommodations were described by early occupants as including "running wood and water." The freshmen ran with both. The hall was razed in 1954 and its ancient brick used in construction of a home in Odessa.
